Who we are
Bookish Badger is a trading name. In this document “we”, “us” and “our” mean the person or business named as the seller in the Business details of our Terms of sale, Returns, Privacy notice and Contact us pages, trading as Bookish Badger. Those pages give the seller’s name, geographic address and, where they apply, company and VAT details. Every page gives our email addresses. This page forms part of, and should be read with, our Terms of sale. It does not affect your legal rights.
Changing your mind: print books and signed copies
You can cancel an order for print books, including signed copies, for any reason, from the moment you order until 14 days after the day you receive the books. If your order arrives in more than one parcel, the 14 days start on the day you receive the last one. You do not need to give a reason, and you can cancel before the books arrive.
Making a book to order does not, on its own, make it personalised, so the usual cancellation right applies to our print-on-demand books and to signed copies.
Cancelling in the first day or so
We hold each order for up to about 24 hours before our print partner starts printing. If you tell us before printing starts, we cancel the print job and refund you in full, including delivery. You do not need to send anything back, because nothing has been printed. Once printing starts we cannot stop it, and the rest of this page applies.
How to cancel
Tell us clearly that you are cancelling, by email to our support address or by post to our address, both shown in the Business details on this page. You can use the model cancellation form below, but you do not have to. Please include your order reference and which books you are cancelling. Your cancellation is in time if you send it before the 14 days end; keep a copy of your message.
Sending books back
After cancelling, send the books to the returns address in the Business details (if no separate returns address is shown there, use the address shown) within 14 days of telling us. Do not send them to the printer. You pay the cost of return postage when you cancel because you changed your mind. We recommend a tracked service, and that you keep proof of postage. Please pack the books carefully: we may reduce your refund to reflect any loss in value caused by handling them more than you would in a shop, for example if a book has been read through, written in or damaged.
If you live outside the United Kingdom, postage back to us can cost more, and you may need a customs declaration: describe the parcel as returned goods. We cannot refund import VAT, duties or fees you paid on delivery, because we did not charge them, but your carrier or customs authority may be able to refund them.
Your cancellation refund
We refund the price of the cancelled books, including any signed-copy amount. If you cancel the whole order, we also refund the standard delivery charge. If you cancel only some of the books, we refund the delivery charge only to the extent that it would not have been payable for the books you keep.
If you cancel before we send the books, we refund you within 14 days of your telling us. Otherwise we refund you within 14 days of receiving the books back or, if sooner, of your sending us proof that you have posted them. Refunds go to the payment method you used. We never charge a refund fee or a restocking fee.
EPUBs
For an EPUB, the cancellation period normally ends 14 days after we accept your order. At checkout we ask you to agree that the EPUB can be made available immediately and to acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel when it is. Once the EPUB is available on your order page, you cannot cancel it because you have changed your mind. We confirm your agreement in your Order Confirmation.
If you cancel the print books in an order that also contains an EPUB, the EPUB part of the order is unaffected.
EPUBs are not sold to buyers in the European Union. If an order containing an EPUB is paid from a country where we do not supply EPUBs, we cancel it and refund it in full.
Faulty, damaged or not as described: print books
Print books must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Within 30 days of delivery you can reject a faulty book for a full refund. After that, or if you prefer, you can ask for a repair or replacement; if that is impossible or does not fix the problem, you can have a price reduction or reject the book for a refund. Within six months of delivery, a fault is presumed to have been there at delivery unless we prove otherwise.
Typical problems include misprinted, missing or duplicated pages, binding faults, the wrong book, and damage in transit. Email us with your order reference, what is wrong and photos if you can. We may ask you to send the book back; if so, we pay the reasonable cost. These rights are separate from, and in addition to, the change-of-mind right above. If you live outside the United Kingdom, we will normally replace or refund a faulty or damaged print book from photos, without asking you to send it back, where that is practical.
Our promise beyond the law. If a print book arrives damaged, defective or misprinted, and you tell us with photos within 30 days after delivery, we will replace it or refund it, as you prefer, and we do not normally ask you to send it back. If a parcel has not arrived and you tell us within 30 days after the end of the estimated delivery time, we look into it with the carrier and then replace it or refund you. This is in addition to your legal rights. If you live in the United Kingdom or the European Union, the legal time limits above apply to your legal rights, and the 30 days apply only to this promise. It does not cover damage you cause.
Faulty EPUBs
An EPUB must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, even after your right to cancel has ended. If it is faulty (for example it will not open on a compatible device, or text is missing or garbled), tell us and we will repair or replace it. If we cannot, or we do not do so within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience to you, you can have some or all of your money back. If a faulty EPUB damages your device and we did not use reasonable care and skill, you may be entitled to a repair or compensation.
Refunds for faults
Where you are entitled to a refund for a fault, we pay it without undue delay and within 14 days of agreeing that it is due, to the payment method you used and without any fee.
If we did not tell you about your right to cancel
If we failed to give you the required information about your right to cancel, your cancellation period is extended by up to 12 months. If we give you the information during that extension, the period ends 14 days after you receive it.
If you live outside the United Kingdom
This page describes your rights under the law of England and Wales, and what we promise beyond it. If you live in the European Union, you have the cancellation and faulty-goods rights your local law gives consumers, and we apply the 14 days and the remedies above. If you live elsewhere, you keep whatever rights the law of the country where you live gives you, including a longer cancellation or guarantee period, and nothing on this page takes them away. Where this page gives you more than your local law requires, you keep what this page gives you.
Model cancellation form
Complete and return this form only if you wish to cancel the contract. You can also cancel with any other clear statement. Print it or save it as a PDF using your browser; printing does not send it.
